Answer key
- On Monday morning, Emma arrived at school early to finish a project. She was usually one of the first students in the building. The hallways were quiet, and the custodian was cleaning near the main office.
- When Emma opened her locker, a folded piece of paper fell to the floor. It read, "Meet me in the auditorium at 3:00. I have something important to show you." There was no name on the note.
- Emma decided to investigate. She checked the auditorium doors, but they were locked. She looked through the small window and noticed that a light was on inside.
- The next day, Emma found another note in her locker. This one said, "You're getting closer!" Emma began to wonder if someone was playing a joke on her. She asked her best friend, Lily, if she knew anything, but Lily acted confused.
- At exactly 3:00, Emma slowly opened the auditorium door. Suddenly, the lights turned on and everyone shouted, "SURPRISE!" Her friends, teachers, and family were standing on the stage. They had planned a surprise party to celebrate Emma winning a statewide writing contest!
- On Friday afternoon, Emma found one last note. It said, "Your answer is waiting where the stories come alive." Emma immediately thought of the auditorium and decided to go there after school.
- Emma's English teacher explained that the entire mystery had been planned by the student council. They wanted to surprise Emma because she had worked so hard on her writing. Emma laughed with relief and thanked everyone for making her day special.
- Emma enjoyed the celebration with her friends and family. She realized that the mysterious notes had been clues leading up to the biggest surprise of her life. She went home excited and grateful for her school community.
